Our Family Doctor offers telemedicine in addition to the traditional forms of in-office medical treatment. Simply stated, telemedicine refers to the use of telecommunications technology (text messaging, secure e-mail, or video conferencing) to deliver healthcare services remotely to bridge the gap between our providers and our patients. This is especially valuable in situations where your physical presence in our offices is inconvenient, challenging, or impossible due to transportation issues, weather, physical limitations (such as traveling or vacations), etc.
Our telemedicine options encompass a range of services, including virtual doctor’s appointments, remote patient monitoring, and the transmission of medical data for diagnosis and treatment. Examples include appointment reminders, lab test results, and other such information. Information of a critical or urgent nature will NOT be provided by text messaging; rather, efforts will be undertaken to contact you in-person or through a voice call or video chat session.
Key aspects of telemedicine as employed by our practice include:
- Virtual Visits
Real-time interactions between our providers and you, the patient, using video conferencing, phone calls, or secure messaging platforms.
- Remote Patient Monitoring
Using technology like wearable sensors or implanted devices to track patient health data and transmit it to their care team for ongoing assessment.
- E-visits
Online or mobile app-based communication for patient-initiated inquiries, allowing our staff to address concerns and offer guidance.
- Medication Management
Facilitating electronic prescriptions and remote monitoring of medication adherence.
Recent experience has demonstrated significant patient benefits to the use of telemedicine, such as:
- Increased Access to Care
Many of our patients exhibit limited mobility, so telemedicine offers access to our medical staff and other healthcare services without extensive travel.
- Convenience and Efficiency
Virtual visits can save time and reduce the burden of travel, waiting rooms, and potential childcare needs.
- Improved Health Outcomes
We can use remote monitoring to help manage chronic conditions, prevent complications, and provide timely interventions.
- Cost Savings
Reduced travel expenses, potential for faster diagnosis and treatment, and the ability to avoid unnecessary in-person visits can lead to lower healthcare costs.
- Enhanced Patient Engagement
Telemedicine platforms can facilitate communication, education, and shared decision-making between our patients and our providers.
- Reduced Exposure to Infectious Diseases:
Telemedicine minimizes the risk of exposure to contagious illnesses, especially during outbreaks like the COVID-19 pandemic as well as less obscure events like the seasonal flu outbreaks.
